In this post we show you how to make wooden DIY taco holders. Using a taco holder makes it easier to prepare, present and serve tacos. You can use them yourself or give them as a nice present to someone else. Of course you can buy taco holder from the store but you can also make your own from wood which is much more fun to do. You only need a wooden panel, wood glue and some handiness. Lets get started!
First a confession before anyone thinks I made these taco holder because I did not, my husband made them and I’m super happy with them. He is very good with wood work as you can see when he made the tortilla press. So I was really glad he want to do this how to make wooden DIY taco holders post.
For the handmade taco holders he used a beechwood panel. To keep it low costs he used a panel of 120 cm x 25 cm x 1,8 cm (47.3 in x 9.8 in x 0.7 in) and sawed it in different parts. Instead of beech you can also use other types of wood, like oak wood. We made two taco holders that can hold 4 tacos each. If you like you can make a different amount of holders by following the design or you can make smaller or bigger taco holders to hold for example 2, 3, 5 or 6 tacos.
What you need to make wooden taco holders
To make the wooden DIY taco holder you need the following materials and tools:
- 1 wooden panel, he used a beechwood panel of 120 cm x 25 cm x 1,8 cm (47.3 in x 9.8 in x 0.7 in).
- Some wood glue, he used water proof wood glue to protect it for water when cleaning the taco holder.
- Sawing-machine or hand-saw.
- Glue clamps (optional).
- Chopping board oil (e.g. bamboo oil) (optional).
Step 1: Saw wooden panel in parts
To saw all the parts of the taco holders from the wooden panel use the drawing below. Measure and duplicate the drawing onto the wooden panel. You can use a sawing-machine or a hand-saw. From the wooden panel you will get the following single parts:
- 2 bottom plates [A].
- 10 supporting bars [B].
Step 2: Construct the wooden taco holders
After sawing all the individual parts you are ready to assemble the wooden DIY taco holders. To do this you only need to glue the supporting bars [B] on the bottom plates [A], 5 supporting plates per bottom plate. An easy way to do this is by first glue the outside left and right bar on the bottom plate, then the bar in the middle, and then glue the 2 remaining bars in the middle of the left and right side. This way you get equal spaces for each taco in the holder.
To keep the bars steady and under pressure you can use glue clamps. If you do not have these you can put something heavy like a pile of books on top of the taco holder until the glue is hard.
You can make your wooden DIY taco holders shiny by applying chopping board oil (e.g. bamboo oil) this is optional.
Step 3: Enjoy your handmade taco holders
After the final step the taco holders are ready for use. Try them with my Veggie frenzy stir-fry gluten free tacos these are super easy to make and so delicious.
