You can make a real fast naan without yeast but today we are making garlic naan. The texture and taste of this bread is really different.

It is super soft and infused with garlic. In India naan is cooked with a Tawa but if you do not own one you can easily bake these in a cast-iron skillet.

The result is just as amazing and garlic naan made from scratch is actually really easy.

This naan bread recipe results in soft and fluffy bread with big pockets. All you need to scoop up that tasty curry or dip.

Naan bread is one of my favorite (flat)bread.

There are things you can buy in the supermarket that are great but it is safe to say that no store-bought bread can compete with this one.

I dare to say that this bread can easily compete with restaurant-style naan. Brush on loads of garlic butter and you have the best bread ever.

It remains something like a miracle to see the naan balloon like a ball when you put it on a hot griddle.

A true test to see if you made the perfect naan dough.

How to make naan with garlic

To make this easy homemade naan start and sift the flour in a big bowl. Take out 4 tablespoons flour and put these in a small bowl to use later.

Then take another small bowl, add the yeast and add 1-2 tablespoons warm water set aside for 5 minutes.

The yeast is active when you see it bubbles and foam on the yeast. Finely chop the garlic.

Add the salt and sugar to the flour and stir to combine with a wooden spoon. Then add the water, half of the minced garlic, yogurt and yeast mixture to the flour.

Stir to combine so you will get a batter-like mixture. Now add the first tablespoon flour to the dough and stir to combine until fully absorbed.

Then add 2 tablespoons of flour to the bowl and keep on combining and kneading until all the flour is absorbed.

Finally, add the last tablespoon of flour and combine and knead until you get an elastic dough for 5 minutes.

Shape the dough into a ball. Put the ball in an oil-covered bowl and pour 1 tablespoon oil on the dough.

Cover the dough and set in a draft-free spot and let it rise for 1 hour.

Make naan bread

Sprinkle flour on a cutting board and roll the dough in the shape of a log. Cut the log in 8 equal pieces.

Let the pieces rest for 10 minutes covered by a tea towel.

Take a piece of dough and fold it and again and again so you get a smaller ball. Repeat for the remaining 7 pieces and cover with the tea towel.

Let the dough rest for 5 minutes.

Take a rolling pin and roll one of the balls into the shape of the naan bread round circle. Repeat for the remaining balls and cover these with a tea towel.

If you do not have the space to put the naan do 2 or 3 at a time. Let them rest while you heat a skillet or griddle for 5 minutes until really hot.

Meanwhile, soften the butter and combine it with the minced garlic and parsley. Set aside.

When the skillet is hot put one naan bread in the skillet and turn after 30 seconds using a kitchen tong.

Heat for another 30 seconds and turn. Now you will see the naan dough rise and the top of the naan will separate from the bottom.

Turn again. You will see dark spots on the naan take it out of the pan and brush it with garlic butter on both sides.

How do you revive naan?

If you want to have your naan taste as good when freshly baked preheat the oven to 400F. Sprinkle the naan with water.

Put in the oven for 3 minutes to heat and turn halfway through the reheating and check f the bread is still soft.

You can also wrap the bread in foil and let it warm for 5-7 minutes. It will take longer but the bread will not go hard.

Do not reheat naan in the microwave because they will hard really fast.

Yes, naan bread can be reheated in a toaster but you have to be extra careful not to turn it into toast.

What is the use of sprinkling water on naan bread?

The water helps freshen up the naan. The water can expand and evaporate in the oven.

It is the same process as when you want to revive stale bread in the oven. The water helps the bread to stay soft and flexible.
