It is Wednesday and it is time for another favorite recipe. This week it is Italian Piadina. This recipe shows that just about any country or kitchen has its own version of the tortilla. Maybe slightly different than a regular tortilla but this version is just as tasty. So are you ready to learn how you can make original parma ham and mozzarella Italian Piadina? Lets get started!
Piadina can be considered the Italian tortilla and as I love tortilla this Piadina is a lunch time favorite. Piadina may be available all across Italy but unfortunately it is not always available in other countries. So what do you do when you can’t buy it in the store? You can just make this Piadina yourself and this is a very easy recipe.
Just like with tortilla the basic ingredients for this Italian flatbread are:
- a pinch of salt
Further this recipe contains olive oil and a little bit of baking soda to make the Piadina soft and fluffy. Just like focaccia or ciabatta this Piadina is a little thicker than your regular tortilla and like a bread. To bake a Piadina use a cast iron skillet.
Piadina can be eaten with savory toppings like Parma ham and mozzarella as I use in this recipe but can also be made eaten with something sweet like jam or homemade Nutella. Just like with bread choose what you like best.

Original Parma ham and mozzarella Italian Piadina. Maybe slightly different than a regular tortilla but this version is just as tasty. Lets get started!
- 200 g wheat flour
- ½ tsp baking powder
- 30 ml olive oil
- 80 ml warm water
- 4 slices of Parma ham
- 1 cup of shredded mozzarella
- ½ cup of sun dried tomatoes
- 1 cup of rucola
Put flour and baking soda in a bowl. Add water and olive oil and stir with a wooden spoon
Knead about 10 minutes into an elastic dough
Divide into 4 equal pieces
Roll the dough into a Piadina
Pre heat a skillet and bake the Piadina 1 to 2 minutes per side
Put shredded mozzarella on one half of the Piadina. Add a slice of Parma ham, sun dried tomatoes and some rucola
