Ordering coffee in Spain
- Café solo which the Spanish equivalent of espresso. It is usually a very small cup
- Café con leche is espresso in a big cup and hot whipped milk. One of the most popular ways to drink coffee in Spain
- Cortado or cafe manchado is a single espresso in a small cup with about a tablespoon of whipped milk on top
- Leche manchada is coffee flavored milk. More than half is milk with a bit of coffee. You can find this type of coffee in the South of Spain
- Café bonbon is a Spanish specialty. Is starts with a layer of sweet condensed milk, then espresso and topped with whipped milk. It is also served without the hot whipped milk
- Leche y leche this means milk and milk is actually no coffee drink. It is similar to café bonbon but does’t contain any coffee. It is a mix of sweet condensed milk and hot whipped milk. The condensed milk to hot milk ratio is 1:1
- Café con hielo is espresso and a glas of ice cubes. When you receive the café solo you pour it on top of the ice and drink it straight away. It is usually popular in the summer
- Café bonbon con hielo is the same as a café bonbon but includes ice cubes to cool down. Another popular summer drink
- Café desafinado, if you do not want to drink caffeine just order this cafe desafinado which means decaffeinated coffee
As you can see no coffee is made with whipped cream other than when you order a cappuccino in Spain.
However the funny thing is that in countries outside of Spain, Spanish coffee is really popular and made like this.
