You can even omit the sugar and salt and have just a three ingredient recipe. But they make the bread just a little more tasty so that is why I’m using them here.

How to make the easiest vegetarian naan bread

Start with the Greek yoghurt and combine it with the olive oil. Give it a big stir so the yoghurt can absorb the olive oil. Set aside.

In a separate bowl combine the self raising flour, salt, sugar and garlic powder. You can use fresh garlic. Mince one or two cloves of garlic to substitute the garlic powder.

Whisk all the dry ingredients through thoroughly and then add the Greek yoghurt. Combine it with a wooden spoon before you start kneading it into a consistent dough by hand. This will take about 5 minutes.

Make a bal and cut 6 equal wedges. Roll into a shape of naan. Warm a griddle or skillet and brush with olive oil. Grill for about 1-2 minute per side. Keep warm in a clean kitchen towel and serve.

Can you give me a gluten free version? How much baking soda and baking powder do you think I would need?

      Hi Judie,

I haven’t made this recipe with gluten free flour yet but you can make your own gluten free self raising flour. To make 1 cup of gluten free self raising flour combine:
1 cup of (brown) rice flour (you can also use oats flour or Tapioca Flour/Tapioca starch instead)
      add 1½ tsp baking powder
      ½ tsp salt
      Whisk and you are done.
