How to make authentic tzatziki
Start with the cucumber and wash it with cold water. You can leave the skin on the cucumber. Take a medium mixing bowl and a grater. To grate about a third of the cucumber.
As cucumber holds a lot of water and you do not want a soggy sauce you need to drain the cucumber. I just take a handful of grated cucumber and squeeze all the excess water in a separate bowl.
It takes about three handful of drained cucumber for this recipe. If all the excess water is drained set the mixing bowl aside.
Now finely chop the garlic and put it on top of the cucumber. Squeeze a fresh lemon or take some lemon juice and also add it on top of the cucumber.
Then it is time to add the Greek yogurt and the olive oil. Take a spoon and stir the tzatziki. Now onto the finishing touch the finely chopped dill and sea salt to taste.
Stir again so of the ingredients are evenly distributed in your tzatziki. It now is ready to serve.
This dip is relatively low carb. The creamy texture might fool you into thinking it is a calorie rich dip but the opposite is the case. Tzatziki is made with 0% fat Greek yogurt and cucumber that holds no calories.
So be generous and take another spoonful delicious dip sauce. You can keep this sauce in the fridge for up to 4 or 5 days. Preferably you eat it as fresh as possible.
